Summer layering

Layers aren’t just for winter. It’s about how you wear it, not what you wear. The key is to drape fabrics while leaving a peek of unpresumptuous skin to show. It goes without saying that fabrics such as leather, wool, and knits should be avoided. Opt for light cottons, silk, linen, and rayon; these materials are fairly lightweight and breathable.

Jewelry with an array of colors, textures and patterns can liven up or add some style to casual summer wear. Keep an open mind and throw out the rules, sometimes it’s best to just pile on what you love. Match delicate chains to chunky necklaces. Necklaces should lie at different lengths, so each layer makes a statement. Jewelry is an expression of your personal style, which means the more you experiment; the more comfortable you are with creating your own look.

Go thrift yourself a denim top and design your own ombre shirt, jacket, or tank. Here’s how.

The HUDSON Jeans Turbotech™ denim is a revolutionary fabric that goes from raw to vintage in just 30 days. The futuristic material was created by fabric innovators iSKO. Denim connoisseurs can now achieve a uniquely worn-in look without waiting years for nature to take its course.

As the cutting-edge fabric molds to the wearer’s body, creases and wrinkles develop for an undoubtedly personal pair of pants. The owner’s lifestyle, walking pattern and even the things in their pockets will affect the raw denim’s look. Those who are religiously devoted to raw denim will know the effort to maintain that antique look is quite demanding.

The brand has also teamed up with four influential men to follow their denim experiences, dubbed the TURBOTECH™ EXPERIMENT. The line up includes, international DJ VICE, blogger Johnny Pinto, street artist Kai and comedian Josh Wolf.

Mixing prints might be the most intimidating trend out there right now. Not too many women will hit their closet and match stripes with polka dots or tribal and floral.

Keep these three tips in mind when styling your mixed pattern outfit:
1. Make sure at least one color repeats in every piece of the outfit.
2. Combine loose prints with structured prints.
3. Steer away from being too matchy-matchy

You ready to do some closet cleaning and make money? The latest style-meets-tech mashup that’s caught our attention is that of Menlo Park-based app Poshmark. In essence, the free iPhone app, which officially launched last week, allows users to clean out their closets by snapping pictures of items they want to get rid of and posting them on an Instagram-like stream (there’s even a glam custom filter) for friends to view and, ideally, buy instantly.
Each time you snap a photo of an item (either modeled on yourself or propped up on something), the app will prompt you to name the item and its brand, list the price you bought it at and the price you’re selling it at, and the size (when valid). Then, folks can comment, “heart”, and purchase your castaways (Poshmark will send a pre-paid, pre-addressed shipping label to make it easy on ya). Plus, to help propell it all forward, the company hosts Posh Parties, which are essentially virtual events with themes (Holiday Sparkles, Designer Handbags) to help organize and inspire your Poshmark-ing experience. Want to try it out? (Poshmark)

Ever pondered on why and how clothes and personality are linked?Finding your own fashion style is as much an exercise in self-discovery as it is in choosing patterns and prints. Our clothes speak so much about us, and whether we like it or not, there is quite a bit of truth to the old saying that ‘the clothes make the man (or woman)’. In a sense, what we wear conveys something about us to the world around us; it becomes a ‘visible bio’ for onlookers, and can give people clues about our personalities, preferences, and inhibitions (or lack thereof) as it relates to self-expression.We have our individual styles when it comes to fashion. It’s a way for us to express our mood, preferences or simply our personality. Am I right? There are people who prefer the combination of black and white while for others it may mean shades of blue. There are also those who attribute happiness with wearing bright and colorful clothes. How about you? How do you choose your outfit for the day?

Staying Cute/Handsome in Fierce Weather

It’s getting a little nippy outside and it’s about time to put away your shorts, sundresses, and sandals. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you need to resort to leggings and oversized “college” sweatshirts!

We have a few ways to help you remain fashionable during the winter months…

Reliable boots- This is especially important if you live somewhere where winter brings lots of snow and ice. A truly great pair of boots will keep your feet warm and match with a lot of different outfits you already have. I’ve learned by living on the northeastern side of the United States that investing in a reliable pair of boots is definitely a must. Not only should they be sturdy during the brutal winter months but also rainy months as well. You may feel like the ultimate bargain shopper when you find a pair of name brand look alike’s but in the long run you’ll sacrifice your safety and the risk of having to shell out more cash for another pair in 2 months time.

Layers!- Get wrapped up in chunky knits, cozy scarves, and elegant coats. Layering in a casual way is easy: start with a tank or tee, add a cardigan or sweater, and top it off with another jacket, scarf, and/or hat. It is no fun to shiver in next to nothing and doesnt impress anyone, you need to be able to peel off and pile on whenever necessary.

Take Risks Winter isn’t a time to play it safe. Stay true to yourself and wear what you want! Accessorize, keep your mind open for other options, and try new colors. Pants Aren’t the only option (for girls), you can still wear dresses and skirts. As long as you wear a pair of tights with them.
For this reason I love red. But then again, I am a bit of a Christmas-pusher. Red will be the new black, trust me!
Lastly remember hats and scarves are the greatest accessories for all sexes.
